Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that the national electricity grid will continue to experience frequent collapses.
Speaking during the 2025 budget defense session with the Senate Joint Committee on Power, Adelabu cited persistent insecurity and vandalism as major reasons for the grid’s vulnerability.
Adelabu highlighted the Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando transmission line, which has been out of service since a vandalism incident in October 2024, as a significant factor contributing to the grid’s instability.
He mentioned that the government is working on quicker restoration methods but cannot guarantee an end to the collapses until the security issues are resolved.
