The Minister of State Petroleum Resources [Oil] Heineken Lokpobiri and other stakeholders have held a meeting with the Chairman and CEO of Dangote Group Aliko Dangote.
This is premised on issues surrounding the Dangote Refinery.
Dangote and Nigeria’s regulatory authorities have been in dispute in recent weeks over the refinery, and the conflict escalated when the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) announced that the government had not yet licensed the refinery for operation.
To address the issues, Lokpobiri and other key figures in the oil and gas sector met with Dangote on Monday as part of efforts to resolve the dispute.
In a statement on Monday night, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to Lokpobiri, Nneamaka Okafor, said: “The stakeholders expressed their gratitude to the minister for his exemplary leadership and timely intervention in facilitating this crucial dialogue.
“The meeting focused on finding a sustainable and lasting solution to the current impasse affecting the Dangote Refinery, with all parties demonstrating a commitment to collaborative and proactive problem-solving”, he added.
Okafor stated that the minister emphasized the importance of cooperation and synergy among all stakeholders to ensure the success and optimal performance of the oil and gas sector, which is pivotal for Nigeria’s economic growth and energy security. He said the meeting marked a significant step towards resolving the challenges.
Those who attended the meeting included the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed; the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe; and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.
