Leaders of organized Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Festus Osifo, have arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa for the second round of talks on the national minimum wage.
They arrived at 02:14 pm local time in a State House-registered Coaster bus, although the 02:00 pm meeting was delayed due to COVID-19 tests and security checks.
This meeting follows a previous session where parties agreed to continue consultations over the new national minimum wage proposals.
President Bola Tinubu assured stakeholders of his support for a new wage but emphasized the need for a consensus on a figure that both Federal and Sub-national Governments can afford.
The Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage had submitted figures to the President, with the organized private sector and the government team offering N62,000, while organized labour insisted on N250,000.
Due to this disagreement, the President had delayed sending a figure to the National Assembly through an Executive Bill.
At the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday, Tinubu instructed the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, to draft a bill to amend the 2024 budget to accommodate a new minimum wage.
