he European Union has fined Meta, the parent company of Facebook, nearly 800 million euros ($846 million) for breaching EU antitrust rules.
The European Commission accused Meta of engaging in abusive practices with its Facebook Marketplace online classified ads business.
The fine was issued due to Meta’s actions that gave its Marketplace service an unfair advantage over competitors by tying it to Facebook and imposing unfair conditions on other classified ads service providers.
Meta has stated that it will comply with the Commission’s order to end these practices but also plans to appeal the decision.
