Makinde increases pensions, gratuities payment to ₦1bn

Sèyí Mákindé, Governor of Oyo State has announced the approval of the increment of monthly payment of pensions and gratuities of retirees in the state and Local Governments.

The increment is from ₦456 million to ₦1 billion, and it is effective from July 25, 2024.

This was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Suleiman Olanrewaju.

He noted that his administration inherited substantial unpaid pensions and gratuities, adding that the state has paid about N52 billion for pensions and gratuities at the state and local government levels since 2019.

Makinde promised that his administration would intensify efforts to ensure that a significant portion, if not all, of the backlog is cleared before the expiration of his current tenure in 2027.
