The House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria has urged the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments to make it compulsory for companies to inscribe “Made in Nigeria” on all goods manufactured in Nigeria.
This occured on Tuesday following the adoption of a motion moved by Rep. Joseph Nwobasi (APGA-Ebonyi) during plenary in Abuja.
The lawmakers advised the ministry to work with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), to enforce the resolution.
Speaking, Nwobasi told the house that most Nigerian products were difficult for the populace to identify due to absence of the “made in Nigeria” inscription on the goods or products.
He said this might have an adverse impact on the pride, patriotism, and support for local manufacturing, thus, discouraging originality among entrepreneurs.
He urged them to check and correct the act so other countries won’t claim credit for Nigerian goods and materials whenever they are exported.
This, according to him would thwart the competitiveness of Nigerian Goods in the international market.
Adopting the motion, the reps mandated the Committee on Industry to dialogue with MAN and other important bodies to ensure total compliance and adherence.
