The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has formally notified all individual taxpayers, including self-employed individuals and employees under the PAYE Scheme, to file their Annual Tax Returns by March 31, 2024, at the latest, in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Personal Income Tax Amendment Act (PITA) Cap P8 2011.
This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications, and the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Mr. Ayodele Subair.
As per Section 41 of the Amendment Act, it is mandatory for all taxable entities to furnish the relevant state tax authority with a return that showcases their whole income from all sources for the previous fiscal year, no later than ninety days from the start of the current assessment year.
Subair emphasized the need of meeting the deadline once more, pleading with all individual taxpayers in Lagos State—including self-employed people and employees covered by the PAYE program—to fulfill their obligations by the designated day in order to avoid fines and other legal repercussions.
The LIRS head stated that all taxable entities in Lagos State must register on the eTax portal, which is intended to give taxpayers ease, convenience, and security, while stressing that tax returns should only be filed through the LIRS eTax portal, which can be accessed at https://etax.lirs.net.
“In furtherance of our commitment to facilitating compliance for taxpayers, dedicated tax officers are available at our various tax stations to assist individuals in completing online registration and tax return submissions via the e-Tax portal,” Subair concluded.
