Labour Strike: Maritime workers down tools, shut ports and terminals nationwide

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has revealed it will shut down ports, terminals and jetties across the federation.

This is in compliance with the directive of the Organized Labour on embarking on an indefinite strike.

The strike is due to commence on Monday, June 3 (Today) after the failure of the FG to meet the demands of the Labour Unions on minimum wage and electricity tariff hike.

In a statement, Kennedy Ikemefuna, spokesman of MWUN made it known that the indefinite nationwide strike exercise will affect port operations.

“The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria has directed its members in all ports nationwide, jetties, terminals, oil and gas platforms to ensure total compliance to the strike exercise as directed by the NLC and TUC,” Ikemefuna said.

Their counterpart in the aviation sector, the Aviation Unions earlier ordered members to halt services at Airports in the country.

News VEO reported that the leadership of NASS tried to stop the planned strike over the weekend by meeting with Labour leaders but to no avail
