The N35,000 pay award for January and February of 2024 is reportedly being processed, according to the Federal Government.
The Federal Government was previously accused by the Trade Union Congress (TUC), an organization representing organized labor, of not being sincere in carrying out the deal that was made with the unions.
However, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the minister of state for labor, claimed in a statement on Wednesday that the government had already paid the salary award for four of the previous six months.
“On the payment of wage award of N35,000 for Six Months, the Government has so far paid for four months up to 31st December, 2023. The remaining two months of January and February, 2024 are being processed,” the statement partly read.
“On the Minimum Wage Committee, Government has on 30th January, 2024, inaugurated a 37 Member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage to review and come up with an acceptable and sustainable Minimum Wage for Nigerian Workers. The Committee has so far held two meetings and discussions are ongoing.”
She also affirmed that, as of right away in October 2023, Value Added Tax (VAT) on Diesel was suspended for six months, and it is documented that no one has been subject to this type of taxation since that period.
