Taiwo Oyedele, the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy, announced that the committee has proposed to the federal government the removal of taxes on essential items such as food, public transportation, and house rents.
These measures aim to alleviate the financial burden on Nigerians and improve overall well-being.
Speaking on a TV program in Abuja on Monday, Oyedele revealed that the proposal also includes exempting these basic necessities from value-added tax (VAT).
He added that President Tinubu is expected to sign the proposal soon, after which it will be sent to the National Assembly for incorporation into the nation’s tax laws.
