The Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for corps members to ₦77,000, effective from July 2024.
This decision was announced by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in a statement signed by its Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, on Wednesday.
The approval came through a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.
This increase follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Previously, corps members received a monthly allowance of ₦33,000, following an adjustment to the minimum wage in 2019.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, had advocated for a more substantial welfare package for corps members during a recent visit to the Commission’s Chairman.
He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the increase, noting that it would provide much-needed relief and boost the morale of corps members in their service to the nation.
