FG begins repair works on Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway

Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway

The Federal Government has commenced palliative repairs on the deteriorated sections of the Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway.

On Monday, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, inspected the ongoing work on a damaged seven-kilometer stretch of the road.

Kesha noted that the entire road within Lagos spans 18km, but only the most severely damaged sections will be addressed at this stage. She explained that delays in repairs were due to the concessioning process, which was affected by the transition between the previous and current administrations.

The government, however, has now decided to carry out palliative measures while awaiting the resolution of concession-related issues.

The palliative works include filling deep holes (referred to as drum holes), laying a stone base, and applying a binding layer to provide smoother driving conditions within two weeks. Kesha assured that the efforts would improve the road for motorists and commuters.

Residents of the area, represented by Mr. Olaniyi Ilorin, expressed appreciation for the government’s initiative.

While acknowledging the importance of the palliative measures, Ilorin called for a more permanent solution through full road reconstruction to ensure long-term durability and community development.
