Civil servants under the federal government’s payroll will begin receiving payments of the new minimum wage starting from Thursday, the 26th of September 2024.
This information was disclosed by Bawa Mokwa, the Spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, during an exclusive interview as per DAILY POST.
He confirmed that workers would begin receiving alerts for their new minimum wage payments, though he did not specify whether arrears would be included.
Mokwa stated, “Federal Government civil servants will start getting the new minimum wage from today, September 2024. As for the arrears, I am not sure.”
The announcement follows the confirmation from Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, who noted that the government approved an upward review of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), in line with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act, 2024.
This comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the new ₦70,000 minimum wage on July 18, 2024, which was later passed into law by the Senate.
The Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for civil servants had earlier confirmed that the new national minimum wage will be implemented starting July 29, 2024.
