The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, stated that only three of Nigeria’s 22 international and domestic airports are financially viable.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief” breakfast show on Tuesday, Kuku explained that 19 of the nation’s airports are being subsidized due to inadequate passenger traffic to cover their operational expenses.
She stated that most of the 22 airports managed by FAAN need an upgrade of critical infrastructure, including the terminal areas, the landside, and the airside.
The FAAN chief noted that many of the runways at the nation’s airports have exceeded their 20-year validity period and are due for an upgrade.
She emphasized that the airport authority would focus on these developmental goals this year.
