The reimbursement of $760,000 that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello paid as advanced school fees for his children at the American International School, Abuja, has been validated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Dele Oyewale, the mouthpiece of the anti-graft commission confirmed the development.
“The school has refunded the entire $ 760, 000 to the EFCC’s recovery account,” he said.
Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier accused Bello of withdrawing $720,000, from the state coffers, while in office, to offset his children’d school fees in advance.
“A sitting governor, because he knew he was leaving office, moved money directly from the government to Bureau de Change (and) used it to pay his child’s school fee in advance,” he said.
The former governor, however, denied the claim in a statement signed by his Media Officer, Ohiare Michael.
“Alhaji Yahaya Bello did not pay the fees of his children with monies from the coffers of the Kogi State Government,” it read.
