Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate freezing of all state-owned bank accounts in commercial banks until further notice.
This directive, effective from Thursday, aims to ensure that no funds are withdrawn from the state’s coffers during ongoing investigations and reconciliations.
Governor Okpebholo has instructed commercial banks, as well as heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), to comply with this order without delay. He warned that any non-compliance would result in severe penalties.
Additionally, the governor has reverted the Ministry of Roads and Bridges to its former name, the Ministry of Works.
According to Okpebholo, this change was made because the previous administration, led by Godwin Obaseki, did not construct any bridges or significant roads, making the former name seem inappropriate.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that further actions will be taken in the best interest of the state as more decisions are reviewed and implemented.
