Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Ajaero was en route to the United Kingdom for an official assignment and was scheduled to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which starts today.
The Nigerian Police Force had earlier summoned him for an investigation regarding allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime, and related offences.
He duly honored the invitation by appearing at the Headquarters of the Intelligence Response Team on August 28, 2024.
However, he was to be summoned alongside the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, to appear once more at the Force Headquarters on September 5, 2024.
The reason for his arrest is currently sketchy and more is expected to be revealed in the coming hours.
