The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has confirmed it purchased Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, from the Dangote Refinery at a rate of ₦898 per litre.
This marks the beginning of petrol lifting from the refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, with over 300 trucks collecting the initial batch.
Contrary to earlier reports, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye clarified that the petrol was not purchased at ₦760 per litre but at ₦898. Over 70 trucks have already been loaded.
Finance Minister Wale Edun also confirmed that NNPC will be the exclusive distributor of petrol from Dangote Refinery, while diesel will be available to any off-takers in Naira.
Agreements for Naira-based transactions for local crude and refined products have been finalized.
