Dangote blasts NNPC, denies selling fuel at ₦898/litre

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group

Dangote Refinery has refuted claims by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that it sold petrol (PMS) to them at ₦898 per liter.

In a statement signed by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Company, the refinery described the NNPCL’s claims as “misleading and mischievous.”

Chiejina urged the public to disregard these claims and wait for an official announcement from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, which will begin operations on October 1, 2024, under the direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Dangote Refinery, their current crude stock was procured in dollars, and they sold petrol to the NNPCL in dollars with significant savings compared to current import prices. The refinery assured Nigerians that their efforts would help ensure fuel availability across the country and put an end to fuel scarcity.

This response came after NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye claimed that NNPCL purchased petrol from Dangote Refinery at ₦898 per liter during an initial loading.
