There was pandemonium at the Yauri outstation in Kebbi State, when suspected rice Smugglers attacked men of the Nigeria Customs Services.
This was confirmed by the Customs Public Relations Officer, Kebbi Area Command, Mohmmed Tajudeen Salisu, who said the officer in charge of the outstation (OiC) sustained injury during the attack. Seized goods and one AK-47 rifle was taken away but the weapon was later recovered.
Speaking, he said, “Upon arriving at the scene, 41 bags of foreign parboiled rice were seized, secured, and taken to the outstation.
“Afterwards, a mob attack was launched by the aggrieved smugglers by way of mobilising hoodlums to attack the outpost,” he said.
Speaking further, he revealed that the mob vandalised the OiC personal vehicle, the outstation air conditioners, chairs, tables, windows, doors, and other equipments and facilities put in place to support the operations of the outstation.
Realizing the enormity of the situation, the PRO disclosed that the command and other sister agencies were called for reinforcement, which helped in dousing the tension.
