CBN reaffirms validity of Old Naira Notes

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed that all denominations of the Naira currently in circulation, including both old and redesigned notes, remain valid as legal tender indefinitely.

The clarification was issued in a statement by Mrs. Sidi Ali Hakama, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications.

She reassured Nigerians that the old and new designs of the N1000, N500, and N200 notes remain valid for daily transactions and will not be phased out.

Hakama dismissed rumors suggesting that the old banknotes would cease to be legal tender by December 31, 2024, urging Nigerians to disregard such misinformation.

She emphasized that all versions of the Naira, including the old and new designs of N1000, N500, and N200 denominations, remain valid and continue to be legal tender without any deadline.
