The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, has cleared the air on the exit of 1,000 staff who left the bank.
This statement was made during the resumed House of Representatives investigative hearing on the disengagement of the 1,000 workers by the CBN.
Cardoso emphasized that the Early Exit Package (EEP) was entirely voluntary and without any negative consequences for eligible staff. He explained that the restructuring and reorganization were aimed at optimizing the bank’s performance by ensuring that the right people were in the right positions.
The House of Representatives had previously ordered the CBN to suspend the planned retirement of the 1,000 staff and established an ad hoc committee to probe the process and legality of the exercise.
Cardoso, represented by CBN’s deputy director of corporate service, Bala Bello, reiterated that the program was not mandatory and that nobody was forced to leave.
He also mentioned that similar exercises are being undertaken by several organizations worldwide to optimize performance and address career stagnation.
