Ebun Okubanjo, the CEO of Bento Africa, has resigned amid ongoing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Lagos Inland Revenue Service (LIRS) into allegations of tax and pension mismanagement. Okubanjo announced his resignation in an email to the company’s board, relinquishing his equity and debt holdings in Bento.
In his resignation letter, Okubanjo cited the challenges of scaling payroll systems in Africa and hinted at launching a new venture, Ada AI, an AI-powered sales assistant. This decision comes after Bento faced allegations from companies like Fuelmetrics, which claimed the company failed to remit up to ₦50 million in taxes and pension contributions for 2023 and 2024.
Okubanjo’s leadership journey has been turbulent, including a brief resignation in 2022 following allegations of a toxic workplace, only to return later that year.
His recent resignation has caught some investors by surprise, raising concerns over Bento’s transparency.
