As the Federal Government released N12.7bn for metering of the Nigerian Army barracks, complaints about poor power supply have surfaced in the Ikeja Military Cantonment, Lagos.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu who was at the Army headquarters stated that the exercise is in stages. Ikeja Cantonment will be the first phase which will last for 6 weeks before the second phase commences. This is to help them know the amount being consumed in a month to enable them give accurate billings and make collections easier.
Ashade Olatunbosun, the Chief Executive Officer of De Haryor Global Services who is in charge of the metering project stated the project as President Bola Tinubu’s Agenda as a ways to provide steady power supply to the army forces and to enable interconnectivity between the grid and off-grid solar power supply.
He also mentioned the second phase of the project which is to start in Abuja and Enugu with military barrack at the 11 DisCos included in the exercise. Army barracks under Jos, Ibadan, Kaduna, Eko distribution will all benefit from this exercise as well.
Major General Adetuyi raised concern on the estimated bills being given to them irrespective of the insufficient or lack of power supply they have been experiencing.
He claimed to have been with the state government on this case which is yet to yield any result.
However, he praised the Federal Government for the timely response to the metering initiative project at the brigade headquarters as an improvement which they have been looking forward to and it makes them happy.
