The Apapa Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced a record revenue collection of ₦1.6 trillion by the end of the third quarter of 2024, surpassing the ₦1.172 trillion collected for the entire year of 2023.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, Usman Abubakar.
Command Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, in his breakdown of the revenue, revealed that ₦201.8 billion was collected in July, with ₦193.9 billion in September 2024.
He expressed optimism that the Command would surpass its third-quarter performance in the final quarter of the year, crediting compliant stakeholders for their cooperation.
“Our revenue collection is good, and I know we can do better with more impressive results in the last quarter of 2024,” Olomu stated. He also highlighted the Command’s vigilance against smuggling activities, attributing the reduced smuggling cases to increased compliance.
He emphasized that anti-smuggling efforts are conducted alongside trade facilitation, utilizing non-intrusive cargo scanning technology and physical examinations when necessary.
He assured that these procedures are strictly followed across all bonded terminals under the Command’s control.
