The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 80-year-old Aremu Shojobi in connection with 14 kilograms of cannabis.
Shojobi confessed to selling illicit drugs for 25 years, sourcing his supplies from Benin Republic and operating from his home in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, daily between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.
In a statement on September 22, 2024, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reported that the arrest occurred on September 20.
Additionally, the agency seized 25 million pills of tapentadol and 350,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup at the Tincan port complex in Lagos on September 17 and September 20. These seizures were made from three containers under surveillance.
The estimated street value of the tapentadol is approximately N13.7 billion, while the codeine syrup is valued at around N2.45 billion, bringing the total seizure value to about ₦14.95 billion.
The tapentadol was found in 500 cartons, while the codeine syrup was packed in 875 cartons across two different containers.
