The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa through its Area Command Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Usman, said it raised ₦489bn as revenue for the first quarter of 2024.
This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday in which Usman said the figure represents more than 100 per cent increase when compared with ₦213bn the command collected during the same timeframe in 2023.
Speaking, the command’s Customs Area Comptroller, Babajide Jaiyeoba, lauded the officers and stakeholders for their joint efforts in attaining the feat.
He, however doesn’t want to rest on the feat, and has called for sustained adherence by government and private sector stakeholders.
He reminded the officers of the huge role expected to be played by the command in the realisation of the ₦5.7tn annual target of the NCS for 2024, “and as such all hands should be on the deck to achieve it.”
The annual target of the command for 2024 which is almost ₦2tn would be achieved by, “diligently abiding by the service books of instructions like the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, government import/export prohibition lists, Common External Tariff and Federal Government approved Standard Operating Procedures,” according to the comptroller.
“I want to urge all stakeholders in Apapa Port to keep supporting us in achieving an efficient system where everyone plays by the rules to achieve smoother, seamless, and faster import/export cargo clearance,” Jaiyeoba said.
He also called on the men of the service to avoid soiling their reputations as “the benefits that come with earned integrity such as fast track and possible migration to the authorised economic operator.”
