The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set the cut-off mark for admission into the university at 140.
Also, 100 was fixed as the minimum cut-off point mark for admission into polytechnics and colleges of education.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede made the announcement on Thursday in Abuja at the 2024 Policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Oloyede further cautioned Nigerians against news of JAMB setting cutoff marks.
“JAMB does not set cut-off mark. What we have is a minimum benchmark score that any university cannot go below. Different universities have their benchmark scores.”
It was noted that various institutions had sent their minimum benchmark scores to JAMB. Institutions such as Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos; Covenant University, Ogun state, Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun state and the University of Lagos were the only universities that recommended 200 and above.
The meeting had in attendance the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, vice-chancellors, rectors and registrars of higher institutions and other stakeholders.
Earlier, the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria fixed the admission age at 18.
However, protests by stakeholders forced a reversal of the decision. 16 was chosen as the new benchmark with the law setting 18 as the admission age to take off in 2025.
