President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the minimum wage bill into law.
This act ended months of deliberations between Government Authorities, Organised Labour Unions, and the Organized Private Sector.
He signed the bill at the State House in Abuja on Monday, in the presence of a National Assembly delegation, led by the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and some members of the House of Representatives.
The Federal Government and the leadership of the Organised Labour have previously agreed on ₦70,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
“We are happy to announce today (Thursday) that both the Organised Labour and the Federal Government have agreed on an increase on the N62,000 minimum wage. The new national minimum that Mr President is expected to submit to the National Assembly is ₦70,000,” Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris said on the day.
