Tinubu hosts tenure’s first Council of State meeting

President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over the National Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa. This marks his first time hosting the Council since taking office.

The meeting has brought together prominent figures, including former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, who were seen in attendance. Additionally, former Heads of State Abdulsalami Abubakar and Yakubu Gowon joined virtually.

According to sources within the presidency, a primary topic on the agenda is the fallout from the #EndBadGovernance protests, which began on August 1 but gradually lost momentum despite being planned as a 10-day demonstration. The Council will also receive presentations from various ministers of the Tinubu administration, although these ministers are not formal members of the Council.

Key cabinet members expected to participate include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the National Security Adviser (NSA), and the Special Adviser on Information & Strategy. Among the scheduled presentations are:

The National Council of State is composed of the President, who serves as Chairman, the Vice-President, who acts as Deputy Chairman, all former Presidents and Heads of State, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state Governors, and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
