A WhatsApp group has been created to publicize Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s potential presidential bid in 2027, according to a Sahara Reporters report.
The group, currently comprising 467 members, includes notable figures such as Olajide Odidiomo, a House of Representatives member representing Ibadan Northwest/Southwest.
Interestingly, several of Governor Makinde’s aides, including his personal assistant on political matters, Akeem Azeez, are also part of the group, as learned by SaharaReporters.
Moreover, officials from local government councils are also involved in the WhatsApp group.
The members of the group have voiced their support for Seyi Makinde’s potential presidential bid, citing his “people-oriented” governance and leadership style as reasons they believe he is the most suitable candidate for the role.
Makinde, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member and second-term governor, has not yet officially declared his presidential ambitions. However, the participation of his aides and a House of Representatives member in the WhatsApp group promoting his candidacy is noteworthy.
Recently, Makinde has clashed with the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration over local government matters, particularly disagreeing with the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy, arguing that it may not accurately reflect the situation on the ground.
In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy, local government chairpersons in Oyo State recently withdrew their membership from the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON). This move, occurring just a few days ago, underscores the ongoing tensions and adjustments following the court’s decision.
