Men of the Nigerian Army assigned to fight frightening terrorists in the Allawa axis of terror-ravaged Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, North-central Nigeria, have withdrawn after losing two officers to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) yesterday, according to an exclusive PREMIUM TIMES report.
Wednesday’s military casualties brought the total number of Nigerian Army officers killed by terrorists in the axis to six in only one week.
Last Friday, terrorists killed five troops and a captain in the villages of Roro, Karaga, and Rumace in Bassa ward, Allawa district.
According to the report, the officers were recently dispatched to the community in response to ongoing attacks by wicked elements holding field days in the axis, as confirmed by Garba Mohammed, the Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security.
Two officers met their untimely death through the IEDs, and nine others were injured. The injured ones are currently on admission at a hospital yet to be disclosed.
An “administrative arrangement” for reinforcement against the terrorists was the reason for the Army Officers withdrawal, according to the Commissioner.
The release further stated that the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, refused to comment on the issue when contacted.
However, he said, “I think we need to be a little bit discreet about impending and ongoing operations so as not to jeopardize them” in response to an SMS.
Local sources confided in the national daily that the residents and other refugees also fled to other places as the soldiers prepared to leave the garrison town of Allawa.
