Hashiru Baku, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of retired Brigadier General Harold Udokwere, has been apprehended by the police.
News VEO previously reported that the general was killed by armed robbers who invaded his private residence at Sunshine Estate, Abuja, in the early hours of June 21.
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner Benneth Igweh had paraded the initial suspects two days after the incident. At that time, he disclosed that two of the robbers had escaped with the deceased’s pistol.
The suspects identified were Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Nuhu, all from Apo, a satellite town in Abuja. The suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence provided by operatives of the FCT police command from the Utako division, led by CSP Victor Godfrey.
The suspects confessed to stabbing the late brigadier general when he tried to resist them from taking his pistol. The knife used in the crime and the general’s phone were recovered from them.
CP Igweh noted that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the two other fleeing robbers and recover the general’s pistol.
During a press briefing on Monday, Igweh revealed that Baku was arrested in Kano State while attempting to flee the country. He stated, “Today, I will present the organizer of the killing and robbery. We have recovered the general’s gun, his wristwatch, and his wife’s jewelry, which were stolen from his house.”
Igweh added, “Baku, who was previously imprisoned and escaped during the Kuje Correctional Centre attack, continued his criminal activities. We apprehended him in Kano where he was trying to exit the country, and we also recovered drugs from his residence.”
