A litre of petrol is being sold at between ₦900 and ₦950 per litre in some parts of Nigeria.
According to reports, the price increment was recorded in Kano State.
In response to the recent fuel price hike, commercial tricycle operators within the metropolitan areas of Kano have doubled their fares, following the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. This has significantly affected the cost of transportation across the city.
Additionally, many filling stations in Kano have either shut down or are experiencing long queues due to limited availability of fuel.
The few stations that remain open have increased their prices from ₦780-₦850 per litre before the protests to between ₦900-₦950 per litre.
This surge in prices has also led to a rise in black market activity, with fuel being sold at rates ranging from ₦1,100 to ₦1,200 per litre, depending on the location. This situation has further compounded the difficulties faced by residents as they grapple with the escalating cost of living.
