Oyo, Osun among States delaying Minimum Wage implementation

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in one of their numerous protests over the Nigerian Government's poor treatment of workers.

The Organized Labour has urged Nigerians to exercise patience with both Federal and State Governments over delays in implementing the new minimum wage.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) clarified that there is no deliberate attempt by the Federal Government to avoid payment.

President Bola Tinubu signed the new ₦70,000 minimum wage into law on July 29, 2024, after meetings with NLC and the Trade Union Congress.

However, only seven states—Kano, Kwara, Ogun, Borno, Jigawa, Ondo, and Abia—have set up committees to implement the wage increase. Lagos and Edo have claimed to begin payments, while several other states have yet to form implementation panels.

The states yet to raise implementation panels are Plateau, Kebbi, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Bayelsa, Delta, Osun, Ekiti, Zamfara, Benue, Enugu, Taraba, Gombe, Kogi, Enugu, Adamawa, Niger, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Katsina, Kaduna, Cross River and Yobe.
