A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has rejected an application by Willie Maduabuchi Obiano, the immediate-past governor of Anambra state, challenging the powers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to prosecute him.
Obiano is standing trial on nine charges bordering on alleged N4bn theft.
He was arraigned on January 24.
However, in an objection filed by the defendant through his lawyer Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), he said the EFCC does not possess the power to prosecute him while urging the court to dismiss the charges against him.
Obiano added that no prima facie case had been preferred against him.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the case, said the application lacked merit and deserved to be dismissed.
