Nigeria’s Rema bags Chinese Musical Award, becomes first African to do so

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ remix with American superstar Selena Gomez won the Best Collaboration of the Year at the 2024 Hito Music Award in the Republic of China. American global pop star Taylor Swift is one of the most celebrated international artists at the awards ceremony with over six awards.

By achieving this feat, Rema joins American and British artists on the list of the few international musicians to have won the Taiwanese award. Rema’s award was equally presented by Hit FM, Taiwan, and hosted by DJ Andy.

Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema, is a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter. He gained initial recognition with the release of his 2019 song “Dumebi”. That same year, he signed with D’Prince’s record label, Jonzing World. This Famous Nigerian singer has made history as the first African artist to win a Chinese music award.
