President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to meet with the Organised Labour in Abuja on Thursday to further discussions on a new minimum wage for workers across the Federation.
This was according to a Channels Television report.
It was gathered that the President invited the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to the meeting expected to be held at the Aso Villa in the nation’s capital city.
The President is expected to decide between the ₦62,000 proposal from the government and private sector and the ₦250,000 demand from the Organised Labour.
The Thursday meeting comes about a month after the President announced in his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024, that an executive bill on the new national minimum wage for workers would soon be sent to the National Assembly for passage.
However, there are strong indications that the minimum wage talks by Organised Labour, the Federal Government, 36 states, and 774 Local Governments may end up with a ₦70,000 compromise deal despite complaints on the path of Governors that ₦60,000 is too much to be the minimum wage of the country.
