On Wednesday, the state government headed by Governor Seyi Makinde suspended Chief Kilani Ajani, the Baale of Ilua in the Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Chief Kilani Ajani was reportedly suspended due to political upheaval and disturbance within the communities of Ilua and Gbepakan.
According to a letter from the Oyo State Solid Minerals Development Agency, Chief Ajani should be suspended in order to keep the community’s issue from getting worse and to enable a thorough investigation into the accusations made against him.
The Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Biodun Aikomo, wrote a letter to Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, stating that the suspension had been authorized by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
The Monarch had in December 2023 met the bail conditions given to him by the court after he was remanded alongside five others in Abolongo prison, in Oyo town.
Earlier in February, Oba Gbolagade Muritala Babalola (Gbadewolu I), the Onido of Ido in the state’s Ido Local Government Area, was also suspended by the Oyo State Government.
