Makinde signs Oyo electricity bill into Law

Sèyí Makinde, Oyo State Governor

The bill pertaining to the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission has been signed into law by Governor Seyi Makinde.

He’d promised to sign the bill into law creating the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission at the British American Tobacco Ibadan Plant’s 20th anniversary celebration.

By creating the commission today, the governor has kept his word.

According to a post on the Governor’s X handle, he confirmed the signing of the bill into Law saying, “As promised earlier in the week, I signed the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill into law today. This law will enable Oyo State to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity within the state.

“In my remarks during the signing, I said an amendment of the constitution like these is what we mean when we advocate for fiscal federalism.”

Makinde continued, saying that while the government strives for energy independence, citizens will have the ability to hold state governments responsible for the provision of electricity.
