The Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage adjourned its meeting on Wednesday.
This was claimed to have happened so as to give room for the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to meet the 48-hour deadline set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to analyze and come up with an improved minimum wage figure.
According to a The Nation report, the committee, comprising representatives of the Federal Government, organised labour, and the private sector, discussed general matters details of which were not revealed to the media.
However, the national daily reported that a source close to the negotiations spoke on condition of anonymity.
“The meeting was adjourned to give time to the Minister of Finance to meet the 48 hours dateline given to him to present cost implications to him.
“We just discussed general things. We decided to give him time to carry out the directive of the President,” the source said.
Recall, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun to work on a fresh proposal for the national Minimum Wage after the Labour agreed to end their nationwide strike and return to the negotiations table.
