Abba Kyari, the Nigerian policeman famed for his investigative skills has been released from detention.
The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police has been at Kuje Custodial Centre following his arrest on February 14, 2022, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged involvement with an international drug cartel.
Sunday Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba, and John Nuhu, members of the Police Intelligence Response Team were arraigned alongside Kyari, less than a month after their apprehension.
A certain Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne, suspected drug traffickers, were paraded alongside Kyari and his team at the Court on March 7, 2022.
The duo pleaded guilty and were convicted while Kyari and his fellow Cops pleaded not guilty.
Kyari has applied for bail multiple times but was never successful.
However, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja took pity on him on the 22nd of May by granting him bail to perfect the funeral rites of his mother who died earlier in May.
Forward to May 31, the court sat for the hearing on Kyari’s main application for bail about the drug trafficking charges.
Kyari’s request was granted and he was ordered to submit his passport with the court and report to the nearest NDLEA office during his period on bail.
