Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, on Thursday, submitted the projected cost implications of implementing a new national minimum wage.
The submission comes exactly two days after President Tinubu issued the directive to present a proposed new minimum wage figure and analysis of the associated costs.
Edun was accompanied by the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu.
Edun confirmed the submission and reassured that “there is no cause for alarm” when he spoke with newsmen after leaving the President’s office.
Recall that organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, had embarked on a nationwide strike which crippled economic activities on Monday
The union demanded an increased minimum wage for workers and the reversal of the recently increased electricity tariffs.
However, the strike was called off on Tuesday to give room for a five days back-to-back meetings with the representatives of the Nigerian Government.
