House of Reps Asks Legal Council to Halt Increase In Law School Fees

House of Representatives, Nigeria

The Nigerian Law School’s fee increase has been put on hold by the House of Representatives’ request to the Council of Legal Education.

In a motion on Wednesday, four legislators sponsored the bill stating that the nation’s current inflation rate is 27.33% and is expected to increase to 30.00% by December 2023.

The Council of Legal Education approved a 60% rise in Nigerian Law School fees for the 2023–2024 Bar Part II academic session, from N296,000 to N476,000, which alarmed the House.

The Committee on Tertiary Education and Services was further instructed by the House to investigate potential remedies to the current problem and submit a report for additional legislative action within a fortnight.
