Fake Degrees: FG orders Universities to submit Matriculation List

The Federal Government has mandated that all higher institutions in Nigeria must submit their matriculation lists to the Federal Ministry of Education within three months after their matriculation ceremonies.

These submissions are to be made through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

This directive follows recommendations from a committee established to combat fake degree mills in the country.

The committee was set up after an investigative report by Daily Nigerian exposed the ease of obtaining fake degrees in the Benin Republic, leading to the Nigerian government banning the accreditation of degrees from certain West African countries.

The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, emphasized that the government will work to remove holders of fake degrees from the system.

He has directed JAMB to enforce the requirement for all admissions to be processed through its Central Admissions Processing System and to ensure that matriculation lists are submitted in a timely manner.
