Ogun State Police Command has on Tuesday, 23rd Jan 2024 stated that every vehicle plying the state roads shall be confiscated if they do not have the digitalized Central Motor Registry, an information service designed to curb car theft.
This is following an arrest of a Toyota Venza and driver by the force command of Ogun state with plate number EKY 577 GS along Sagamu-Abeokuta Road on Saturday.
It was detailed that the supposed registration number on the car is not for the car, rather for a different car meant to be in Lagos which was also stated by the driver of the vehicle, Emmanuel Chidera that the registration of the car was perfected in a ‘Lungu’ around Mushin.
This resulted in the Ogun State Police Command through the Spokesperson, Odutola Omolola, vowing not to permit vehicles without the e-CMR to move the roads of the state.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had initially confirmed that the initiative is a crucial step towards improving law enforcement capabilities and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
He stated that “Its full operationalization would facilitate swift and efficient tracking of stolen vehicles, significantly increasing the chances of recovery; lead to the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date database of registered vehicles, which would aid in the prevention and investigation of vehicle-related crimes such as kidnapping and one-chance activities involving,”
Let it be known that the CMR is a system designed to streamline vehicle registration processes with a view to strengthening national security.
