Ekiti Obas threaten to call on Yoruba gods to stop kidnappers

The monarchs of Ekiti state have vowed to use customary techniques, such as calling on the Yoruba gods, to combat kidnappers who are causing fear throughout the state.

The criminals, who had previously only operated in the North-West, have besieged the South-West in recent weeks and wreaked havoc on the local populace.

They assassinated Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Imojo, and Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, on Monday. Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara Ekiti, just made it out alive.

On Monday, while returning from an event in Kogi State, the traditional rulers encountered a kidnapping ambush on the highway that connects Ipao and Oke Ako in the Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Three instructors, the bus driver, and five students from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools were abducted by kidnappers who assaulted a school bus in the same vicinity.

Speaking on the subject of security, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, the Olojudo of Ido Ekiti and Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Council, told The PUNCH on Wednesday that the state’s monarchs will use all available means to address the state’s security crisis.

Oba Michael Adedeji, the Owa Ooye of Okemesi Ekiti and a former head of the traditional council, stated that the monarchs’ adoption of customary practices to maintain peace and order had no substitute.

“That was one of our discussions during the meeting with the governor and security chiefs in Ado Ekiti today,” Oba Adedeji stated. I brought up the question of the customary procedures at the meeting.

“There was a manner in which our ancestors lived their lives and handled things. Recent events have demonstrated that we must walk that path. And a lot of my coworkers agreed with that.
