The “Take It Back Movement,” a human rights organization, has taken to the streets of Lagos State to demonstrate against the nation’s exorbitant cost of living and the skyrocketing price of food.
This protest was held despite the warning issued by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, on Sunday.
The demonstrators at the state’s Ojuelegba under bridge region were observed carrying banners with varied inscriptions on them to voice their complaints over the nation’s current economic crisis.
In a statement released on Sunday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson for Lagos, cited Commissioner of Police Fayoade as cautioning planned protestors against using violence or engaging in actions that could violate the rights of others, like obstructing traffic or stopping business operations in the state.
With or without protest, Fayoade gave the people of Lagos State the reassurance that the required security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property.
However, in spite of the warning, the demonstrators took to the streets on Monday with placards.
