The Nigerian Super Eagles have risen fourteen spots in the most recent FIFA rankings following their outstanding performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Under the guidance of Portuguese strategist Jose Peseiro, the Nigerian team maintained four clean sheets while scoring eight goals and giving up four goals in Ivory Coast.
However, the team was unable to discover the winning formula in the AFCON 2023 final.
Even though they lost, their performance in the competition helped them climb quickly in the most recent FIFA rankings and make them the most improved African team available.
Nigeria, which was previously ranked 42, has risen fourteen spots to become 28, and third in Africa, right behind Senegal and Morocco, which are ranked 12 and 17, respectively.
Ivory Coast, the AFCON 2023 winners, rose ten spots to take fifth rank in Africa and 39th place globally, trailing only Egypt, led by Mohamed Salah, in 36th place.
