The cost of a Healthy Diet in Nigeria surged by 19.2 percent on a month-on-month basis, rising to ₦1,241 in June 2024 from ₦1,041 in May, according to recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
This figure represents the daily cost per adult, excluding expenses for transportation and meal preparation.
Regionally, in June 2024, the average Cost of a Healthy Diet (CoHD) was highest in the South West at ₦1,545 per adult per day, compared to ₦956 per adult per day in the North West.
The NBS explained, “The Cost of a Healthy Diet (CoHD) is the least expensive combination of locally available items that meet globally consistent food-based dietary guidelines. In recent months, the CoHD has risen faster than general inflation and food inflation.”
It was reported a while ago that rise in prices of Beans, Tomatoes, Irish potatoes, Garri, Yam and other food items was experienced in June 2024.
